Old Town’s Narrow Lanes Build Real Confidence
Whitefriargate, Silver Street and the lanes near Trinity House were never built with cars in mind, and that catches plenty of learners off guard the first time. Our instructors use that to their advantage, because tight positioning and careful clutch control come faster on streets like these than in any empty car park. Parked vans on Bishop Lane and the blind corners near Lowgate get treated as useful practice, not something to avoid.
A learner who handles Old Town comfortably rarely gets caught out by a narrow country lane later. We would rather build that skill here, on purpose, than leave it to chance.
Marina Roads Get Covered Before They Become A Problem
Humber Dock Street and Nelson Street sit right beside cafes and weekend crowds, and the roundabouts near Castle Street feed straight onto the A63.
Most learners never touch a dual carriageway until a few weeks before their test, and that leaves barely any time to get comfortable with merging, mirror checks and slip road speed.

Please read this to the end before judging by the star rating alone. I arranged my lessons with Nabeel Akbar privately, not through this company, and only discovered afterwards that this is where he works. This isn't a random complaint against an unconnected business - he works here, which is why I'm posting it on this page, so people know not to book lessons with him. I'm not accusing the school itself of anything; my experience was with Nabeel directly. I've attached a photo of the car he was using so there's no confusion about which instructor I mean.
The main issue, from the very beginning, was punctuality. Nabeel was late to almost every single lesson. This wasn't one or two occasions where something unexpected came up - it became a repeated, predictable pattern over the weeks I had lessons with him. The 8am to 10am slot was his own suggestion, not mine, so it wasn't as if I had pushed him into an inconvenient time and then complained he couldn't manage it. I travel from further away than he does, and I still made a point of arriving around ten minutes early every time. On the rare occasions I thought I might be even two or three minutes late, I had the courtesy to message him in advance. That basic courtesy was never returned.
Every time he arrived late he said the same thing: don't worry, I'll make it up at the end. It repeatedly did not happen. Instead, the lesson would still finish 10-15 minutes early. When I questioned this, he told me the remaining time was a debrief. I understand a debrief is a normal part of a lesson - a few minutes discussing what went well and what to work on. But when a lesson has already started late, and then finishes early on top of that, and the missing time is explained away as a debrief, it means losing the same paid time twice, every single time. This wasn't a one-off - it was the routine.
Then there is what my paid lesson time was actually used for. During one lesson I noticed the car was almost out of petrol, and rather than this being sorted before my lesson started, I was told to pull in and fill the car up myself, in the middle of time I was paying for. Around two days later, he pulled over again mid-lesson - not for anything to do with my driving, but so I could look at his phone and help him with something related to a different car he was personally selling. Neither of those things is driving instruction. Neither is what I was paying for. My lesson time was being spent on his errands, not my learning.
Questions were another issue. I am a learner - asking questions is the entire point of having an instructor. But when I asked things, he regularly responded with visible frustration or irritation, as if I was being a nuisance for wanting to understand something properly. It made me hesitant to ask, which defeats the purpose of a lesson.
To be fair, I never expected perfection. Traffic happens, people are occasionally late, and on a genuine one-off I wouldn't have said a word. My issue was that this happened almost every lesson, and I still didn't receive the time I had paid for. When I eventually raised it with him calmly, he became defensive, raised his voice at me, and told me I should simply accept him being around ten minutes late as normal. I was a paying customer raising a legitimate concern, not insulting him or demanding anything unreasonable, yet I was made to feel like I was the unreasonable one. More recently, when I told him I did not want to pay in cash, his attitude towards me afterwards made things worse again.
None of this was one bad day - it was a clear pattern. Based on my own experience, I cannot recommend Nabeel Akbar, and I want anyone considering lessons with him to know exactly what it was like.

Amazing experience, totally recommend to any new learners. My instructor was Arifa and she was amazing when it came to teaching me, I was taught in a calm , patient and caring manner, in the beginning I was very nervous but with her help I managed to overcome my fears and learn how to drive within 3-4 months. I passed my practical exam first time so i’m confident enough to tell any new students to learn with this driving school!

Thanks to Zeba, I passed my ADI Part 2 on my first attempt in Tolworth on Friday with only 3 minors.
She is an amazing instructor with a fantastic personality and a real passion for what she does. She pays close attention to detail and teaches you everything you need to know. Her teaching techniques are clear, effective, and easy to follow.
I was really struggling with the Scilly Roundabout, but Zeba went above and beyond to help me. She even sought advice from her senior instructor and used different teaching techniques until we found an approach that worked for me.
No matter how many times I asked the same questions, she was always patient, friendly, and ready to help. Her dedication, encouragement, and commitment to her pupils made all the difference.

I had a great experience learning with Zeba. I already hold an EU licence, but adapting to driving in the UK was quite challenging at first, especially getting used to the road rules and left-hand traffic. Zeba explained everything clearly and helped me build confidence quickly.
Thanks to her guidance, I now feel comfortable driving on UK roads, including handling roundabouts and adjusting to driving on the left-hand side. She is always punctual, professional, and reliable. I also really appreciated that she didn’t require advance payment for lessons, which made the whole process much less stressful. I would highly recommend her.

I had my driving test today and passed, and a lot of that comes down to Mr Shah. In just a few weeks, he helped me improve my driving quickly and focus on the areas that actually mattered for the test.
He’s friendly and easy to get along with, but also gives clear and honest feedback, which made a big difference. Lessons were always structured and useful, and I felt more confident each time.
Would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a reliable driving instructor.

It was great. Zeba is a great teacher, she helped me a lot to get less stressed when there is a lot of traffic. She also speaks german, that helps me because i‘m from austria and my english is not that good. Really calm teacher, with lots of passion in it. She teaches you everything really good. I had an excellent experience with Zeba. We completed 6 hours of refresher lessons together, and she covered everything thoroughly, including crossroads, mini roundabouts, big roundabouts, junctions, and parking. Thanks to her clear guidance and structured approach, I now feel much more comfortable and confident on the road. Zeba is calm, patient, and very friendly, which made each lesson enjoyable and stress-free.

I had 2 driving lessons with Shaz, and unfortunately both were very negative experiences. Throughout all of our interactions, he was very rude and dismissive.
In my first lesson, I told him that I learn better when I understand how things work, for example by following the MSPSL. He told me I should just follow his instructions and didn’t take the time to explain anything. He was very dismissive of my questions and kept telling me to calm down whenever I asked something.
In my second lesson, I was driving confidently but still getting used to things, as I’ve only had a few lessons. He kept raising his voice at me and telling me to calm down every few minutes. Despite multiple attempts to explain that I need a calm environment while I’m driving, it became too much and I had to pull over and ask him to stop shouting, as it was distracting and stressing me out.
He then became very aggressive and said I shouldn’t accuse him of shouting. He told me that he’s the instructor and I’m the student, so I should just do as I’m told and calm down. I explained that this approach doesn’t work for me, and that being told to calm down like that actually makes me more anxious, not less. He then became angry, told me to get out of the car, cancelled the remainder of my lesson, and said I should find another instructor.
This was a very upsetting experience. I believe his behaviour was unprofessional and unnecessarily aggressive. I have had driving lessons in the past and have never been treated this way, especially for simply asking not to be shouted at.

Today, I passed my test at Tolworth on my second attempt with only 2 minors. I can't recommend Zeba enough, she was incredibly supportive. Before her, I had 2 instructors but never felt confident while driving. She helped me build my confidence and taught me how to stay safe on the roads. I used to be scared of roundabouts, but she supported me and helped me make my own decisions and judgments. Highly recommended 🙂

I had such a great experience learning with Arifa. After a negative experience with a previous instructor, I had lost a lot of confidence being behind the wheel. Arifa was incredibly patient, supportive, and really helped rebuild my confidence from the start.

I recommend Mr. Shah as an effective instructor. He is one of the most experienced tutors in the area, he has lots of helpful tips and he is punctual. His patient and encouraging approach creates a suitable learning environment, and he explains each concept clearly. His instruction and guidance played a key role in helping me pass my test on my second attempt (the first attempt was with a different instructor).

Honestly Shah is the best driving instructor I’ve ever had, calm, patient, punctual allowed me to pass first time with only one minor at Tolworth (less than 10 hours). He didn’t allow me to overpay and take lessons for no reason as soon as I was ready he got me into the test and my results prove that he was right I was ready.

I would like to specially thank Zeba who is an incredibly amazing Driving Instructor at Connect who helped my Pass my ADI Part 2 Practical Driving Test. Zeba has an incredibly amazing personality, and is a very hard-working and dedicated individual. Her teaching style and her level of patience is one that I have not seen in a long time across the vast majority of people I have dealt with with my level of experience being a Former Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police in London.
I would highly recommend Zeba to other Pupils who are considering learning to drive for both Standard Driving Test and for those who are considering doing there ADI (Advanced Driving Instructor Part 2 Driving Test). Zeba has an amazing approach to Pupils who may feel unconfident or shy from asking questions or discussing different aspects of the Driving Test or Driving Lessons. Her Energetic personality, creates a great atmosphere that allows anyone to feel comfortable to learn how to drive with her.

From my experience as a Former Police Officer, I naturally felt, that there are no good people left in this world, but little did I know when I met Zeba. She completely changed my mindset and thought process. She is very respectful, professional, kind and very helpful and teaches to a very high standard as mentioned earlier. I really enjoyed taking driving lessons from her, and I feel quite lucky to learn from someone with very high driving standards.
It's very important to have an Instructor who is willing to help you learn, and an instructor that teaches you everything from A to Z.

As a Former Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police, and I have to say that Zeba has an amazing attitude towards teaching her pupils, with some of the highest standards set out by the DVSA, which aids the learning of a Pupil and helps you pass your Driving Practical Test 1st time around.
Zeba has been an outstanding ADI Driving Instructor to learn from, and it was a pleasure learning to Drive from her. Her can-do-attitude and her energetic-personality makes it easy for anyone to engage with her at ease and get learning. She has a very high standard of teaching, and that is exactly what you need, if you are serious about passing your standard or ADI Driving Test. From my experience as a Former Police Officer, I naturally felt, that there are no good people left in this world, but little did I know when I met Zeba. She completely changed my mindset and thought process. She is very respectful, professional, kind and very helpful and teaches to a very high standard as mentioned earlier. I really enjoyed taking driving lessons from her, and I feel quite lucky to learn from someone with very high driving standards.
It's very important to have an Instructor who is willing to help you learn, and an instructor that teaches you everything from A to Z.
Overall, amazing person, and I highly recommend her to anyone to take Driving Lessons with for both standard driving tests and for ADI Instructor Part 2 Practical Test. She is very knowledgeable and highly experienced and knows all that you need, to pass the Practical Tests successfully.

Learning to drive with Noroz was brilliant! He's super patient and really knows his stuff. He explains things clearly, so you actually understand what you're doing and why. Plus, he's got a great sense of humour, which makes lessons way less stressful. He never made me feel bad for messing up, just helped me learn from it. I passed my test no problem thanks to him. Zeba was an amazing instructor. I in fact booked 10 hours with her at the beginning of the year where she got me to where she thought I could pass my test, however when booking my driving test I got a date at the end of the year and so booked in some refreshers closer to my exam.
Zeba taught me the correct and safe way to drive. Was encouraging and corrected my faults in a clear way. I would recommend her to anyone who has never driven a car, doesn’t have a car to practise on and who has had little experiencing driving.

After passing my driving test first time. My driving instructor, Shah, taught me great. Since the start he was always calm and friendly even during the start when I would make mistakes. It was a pleasure being taught by him and thanks to him I was able to pass.

From the very first lesson,Shah was professional & patient. He provided clear, calm & concise instructions, and always explained the objectives of the next lesson.
He was always cheery, and easy to talk to, responsive to messages, amenable to schedule changes & willing to repeat manoeuvres until I was truly confident with them. He will let you know when you are ready. Due to the wait for examinations being quite long, it’s best to go in ready so as not to need to wait moths for a re-attempt.

My driving experience with Mr Shah was fantastic due to the amazing instructor. He made sure that i was fully prepared for the test which i passed first time. He never cancelled lessons and was very consistent with bookings. Overall, I’d rate my lessons with him a 10/10.

Mr. Shah is an excellent driving instructor - highly recommended.
I passed my driving test today and had a great overall experience. Shah helped me build my confidence despite having minimal driving experience beforehand. So I just passed my test in 1st go today and it’s thanks to Shah! He is a very good instructor who knows how to explain and articulate info well! He will make sure u have understood and perfected a skill by revisiting the same thing again which was very helpful! Definitely feel confident about driving on the roads. His advice was very helpful and will definitely be implementing them in the future. Thanks!!!

Nailed my driving test on the first go! 🎉👏 Shah was my instructor, had this superhero ability to spot the tiniest slip-ups. He made the whole learning journey a hilarious ride! If you're aiming to ace your test, i would definately reccomend him.

Waqar is a very dedicated and patient instructor. I was a complete beginner but with Waqar I passed my test within two months!! Waqar ironed out my weaknesses immediately, he helped me to stay focused and always encouraged me.

I am now at my 4th driving lesson course and I am very happy having Shah as my instructor as I find him excellent at how he teaches driving.
He has a good amount of knowledge and clearly has passion for what he does.
I feel I have made quiet a lot of progress and this shows in my confidence.

I just passed my Driving test today in first attempt at Morden centre.
I have done my driving lessons with Shah , let me tell you he is a great instructor! I was able to gain confidence and drive on the road in just couple lessons. Furthermore, he is very calm and patient, The reason why i would recommend this instructor to anyone. Its because he deliverers the information very clearly. if you don’t understand something he will try to draw it and try to explain it to you in the most simplest way.

Had a great experience of driving lessons with Shah. He built up my confidence a lot on the roads and coached me amazingly well to pass the test.
